"Bad things happen to good people."

Every year, you visit your sister's grave. You laid her to rest on a remote island, somewhere where she wouldn't be disturbed. This is the year that she was disturbed. The island, its flora, its wildlife, even the sea surrounding it were strange.

This is the story of Elliot, Captain of the Cerulean Rose, and how he paid his respects to his sister.

Project: Cerulean Rose is a passion project that combines aspects of some of my favorite game into an easy to understand yet challenging and story-driven experience. 

Using aspects like targeting specific limbs like from the Fear & Hunger games or the punishing and rewarding decision making of the old King's Field games, Project: Cerulean Rose is intended to make players think and solve the mysteries of their situation, whether it be through careful puzzle-solving or mindless violence. 

Here's the current roadmap, organized by when it will occur in order.

  1.  A demo will be released to some of my closest friends, simply to show a proof of concept as well as allow them to establish any sort of wikis, ways of sharing knowledge, or speedrunning tricks. They also will help identify major and minor bugs and glitches. This demo will only reach out to about maybe an hour or so of playtime.
  2.  Another demo will soon after be released, this time being released to an entire Discord server of mine and playtested for any issues whatsoever. This is also a stage where I'll be accepting contributions for help with extra sounds, music, art, tilesets, animations, and more. This demo will only extend a little farther off of the first one, allowing players to clear out the first major "dungeon" of the game.
  3. A sort of Early Access build will be released on this Itch.io page, which will include a good amount of the games content and allow for near completion of the games main ending. Extra areas will be accessible, but not necessarily of use as of yet. This version does not have a known amount of playtime, but will probably be a decent amount of time in length if played normally and not speedran to death. This version will also end up replacing all default RMMV tilesets.
  4. The final build, a full release, will be here and most likely still free. It will come with an extra side ending that requires much more effort and will be for those who care more about storytelling and difficulty.

FEATURES (the fun and unfun ones):

  • 5 Party Members, each with their unique motivations, ideas, likes, dislikes, and backstories for being on the island.
  • Tons of Cosmetics for conveniencesuch as window skins hidden around the map and (hopefully) some costume variants for characters.
  • Lots of lore for those who have a tiny little MatPat inside them, inspired by the likes of Fear & Hunger, The Elder Scrolls, Hollow Knight, and Elden Ring.
  • Difficult turn-based combat that requires...pressing Z. Or Enter, if you're a FREAK!
  • Puzzle solving to wrack your brain and make you cry! We have sliding block puzzles! We have ice sliding block puzzles! We have code words and passwords and keys and more!
  • Superbosses. A staple of any good RPG is a challenge that entire runs can be shaped around defeating. Preparation needs to be perfect, or devastation is imminent.
